Dejal Userware¬ is a privately owned software development company, owned and operated by the author, David Sinclair. Note: I recently changed my name from David Lambert, as my wife and I chose that new name for ourselves when we got married. The name ╥Dejal╙ comes from my former initials, D.J.L., and the name ╥Userware╙ comes from ╥user-friendly software╙ ╤ ╥Userware╙ is part of the company name, not a synonym for ╥software.╙
Note: my software is now available for anonymous ftp at ftp.amug.org in the /pub/contrib/dejal directory. Most of the software is also available on sumex-aim and its mirror sites, though my ftp site has the advantage of having all my software in the one directory, and you know they are the latest versions.
You can also get my software via the Dejal Userware Web pages: http://pobox.com/~dejal/
Note that both the ftp and Web sites have high usage demands, so if you can╒t connect, just try again later.
The disk I send out to my customers contains all of my publicly released software to date plus a catalogue of my Dejal Sound Library, which is also available. Below is a list of the Dejal Userware software on the distribution disk as of this release, though remember that the disk is perodically updated:
╤╤╤ Dejal Sound Utilities bundle (Shareware) ╤╤╤
Ñ SndConverter Pro: my most popular product to date; this application allows you to quickly convert a batch of sounds from one format to another. Additional options include the ability to downsample or compress sounds, filter the sound names, change sampling rates, convert 16-bit sounds to 8-bit, plus other features. It will help you find and extract sounds, and supports Apple events (file, folder and disk dropping), resolving aliases, and other features.
Ñ SndConverter Lite: a cheaper edition of the above, with less functionality.
Ñ SndPlayer: play sounds anywhere quickly, features include random order, information about each sound, volume control, etc.
Ñ SndCataloguer: create catalogues of your sounds; catalogues all of the formats that SndConverter Pro etc supports.
Ñ SndRecorder (Freeware): a special pre-release hack that uses the Sound Input Manager under System 7 to record sounds directly into a suitcase.
╤╤╤ Dejal Text Utilities package (Shareware) ╤╤╤
Ñ TextMerge: quickly merges several text files into one file. Includes support for multiple worksets, various destinations, etc.
Ñ TextSplitter: split text files into several separate ones, based on user-specified separator text. Includes support for multiple worksets, using e-mail headers, etc.
Ñ TextConverter: converts extended ASCII characters (e.g. ⌐, ╥, ╙, Ñ, etc) to standard ASCII equivalents, suitable for including in e-mail or online. Can also convert the contents of the Clipboard.
╤╤╤ Dejal File Utilities package (Shareware) ╤╤╤
Ñ Create Suitcase: allows you to create a new empty font, desk accessory, or System 7 suitcase file.
Ñ New Suitcase: a simpler edition of Create Suitcase, that instantaneously creates a new System 7 suitcase (as the New Folder command in the Finder does for folders).
Ñ Deleter: an application to quickly delete a file or files, even invisible files. It displays the flags and creator/type of files to be deleted.
Ñ Resource Leech: extract resources into data files.
Ñ AltClipboard FKEY: allows you to copy two things at once, by swapping between the active Clipboard and an Alternative Clipboard.
Ñ ClipSize? FKEY: displays a small window listing the contents of the clipboard (and the Alternative Clipboard if you use my AltClipboard FKEY), including the size of each item and the total (if more than one item).
Ñ Hide Menubar FKEY: hides the menubar (like HyperCard¬ does) in any application or the Finder, or if the Caps Lock key is down it shows the backdrop over the whole screen.
Ñ AltOrMainFolders extensions: allows you to swap desktops, Apple menu items, preferences, and other folders over depending on which key you press at startup. Great for sharing a Mac between two people and have different setups, without resorting to different startup disks.
Ñ LockHD4Session: locks the system volume for the session, then automatically unlocks it again when you restart. Perfect for protecting your system from little kiddies. <grin>
Ñ Privacy FKEY: quickly hides the contents of the screen from prying eyes.
Ñ DrawDesktop extension: useful for users of MaxAppleZoom who run lots of extensions, so they can stare at an interesting desktop pattern or desktop picture instead of boring dithered grey.
Ñ Volume control panel: adjust the speaker volume easily.
╤╤╤ Other Products ╤╤╤
Ñ QuickEncrypt (Shareware): drop a file or folder full of files on this application to quickly and securely encrypt it, or decrypt previously encrypted files. It is very configurable and has many features, including support for archiving several files in one encrypted file, unlimited file lengths, multiple worksets, user-controlled password limitations, a default password, automatic encryption and/or decryption, verification of validity, the option of a standard source folder and various destination options, opening files once decrypted (via AppleEvents), and more.
Ñ Dejal╒s Quoter FKEY (Donationware): makes quoting others on a BBS or usenet quick and easy. Includes intelligent nested quote handling and many other useful features, and is customisable.
╤╤╤ Freeware ╤╤╤
Ñ { Wrap } FKEY: a tool for THINK Pascal programmers, that quickly reformats blocks of comments after text has been added or modified.
Ñ SndCollector: collect info about sounds ╤ this is what I used to use to generate my sound catalogue (the different versions generate different levels of information) ╤ this program has been replaced by SndCataloguer.
Ñ SimCity Bank: lets you adjust the amount of funds available for individual SimCity¬ games. (Become a billionaire instantly! <grin>) It does not support SimCity 2000¬ games, though.
Ñ SimTower Bank: the same as my SimCity Bank, but for Maxis╒ SimTower¬ game.
Ñ MacCheckers: a game of checkers (draughts) from my university days.
Ñ Beep FKEY: simply beeps (good for listening to beep sounds).
Ñ Message FKEY: uses MacinTalk (if available) to speak a random message in one of several category groups (e.g. Hello, Goodbye, Shut Up, etc).
Ñ Say It FKEY: uses MacinTalk to speak whatever text is in the Clipboard.
Ñ Shutdown FKEY: lets you quit the current application (or Finder), restart or shut down. Has an emergency shut down mode.
Ñ Volume Setter FKEY: lets you set the speaker volume from the keyboard (via a dialog).
Ñ 5-6-7 extension: lets you switch between various System versions. Not guaranteed to work on all machines (I had problems with it, but others report no problems and like it, so I╒m leaving it on the disk).
Ñ Greetings extension: uses MacinTalk (if available) to speak a random message based on the time of day and date on startup, e.g. ╥Merry Christmas╙, ╥Good morning╙, ╥Good evening╙, etc.
I reserve the right to update and change in any way the selection of software on the disk, without notice.
